Mercury’s sire Challenger, who recently died was the sire of the Australian National Fleece Champion for three consecutive years. Challenger is also the sire of numerous Supreme Champions over many years. Challenger at ten years of age was still winning Supreme Championships and Championships himself. Mercury’s dam was purchased by highly respected judge Jenny Jackson to be used in the world’s largest alpaca embryo transfer program. Mercury has scientifically proven superior fleece characteristics as shown by a skin biopsy test, utilizing SRS technology. Dr. Jim Watts, founder of the SRS breeding system, based on scientific measurements has said Mercury has excellent follicle density, fibre fineness and fibre diameter uniformity. He would be expected to reduce guard hair, and to lift fleece weight whilst reducing fibre diameter. With only under forty of Mercury’s progeny on the ground we have been excited by the results. Many of his progeny have won Championships at major shows in breed and fleece.
