Stoneleigh Alpaca Stud is owned by Chris and Liz Strack. Stoneleigh is situated just 20 minutes north of Christchurch with the picturesque Southern Alps in the back ground. Chris and Liz purchased their first alpacas in 2004.

Alpacas do very little damage to the land and therefore they have low impact on the environment. These animals are gentle in their nature and are easy to handle. Alpacas are also relatively low maintenance and, unlike other farm animals, require little input.

Chris is a former President of the Alpaca Association of New Zealand. Liz has worked on several sub- committees including the show committee, National Show working group, Registry Working Group and the Southern Region Committee.

At Stoneleigh Alpaca Stud our primary focus is on breeding superior white and fawn Huacaya / Alpacas to supply seed stock to the New Zealand and export market. Stoneleigh animals are now in the United Kingdom, Italy, Germany, Belgium, Holland, France and Taiwan.

Stoneleigh´s goal is to produce alpacas with superior fleeces. We focus on first rate genetics with the aim of breeding animals with fleeces that are soft, silky, deeply crimped and superior in length. We also focus on strong conformation.

The Stoneleigh farm has lush well irrigated paddocks. The aim of Stoneleigh Alpaca Stud’s breeding program is to produce genetically fine fleeces with fine primary fibres. These are fleeces that will not ´blow out´ on lush pastures.

Stoneleigh Alpaca Stud is a foundation member of SRSAI. SRSAI goals are to improve fleece weight quality by using scientific measurements.

We have attended a number of workshops and conferences overseas and our international travel has given us the opportunity for valuable and extensive “hands-on” experience. We believe ongoing education is vital to keep ´raising the bar´ in breeding these wonderful animals.

The success of our commitment to the alpaca industry has rewarded us with many Supreme and Championships show wins.
